RESURRECTION EGGS
Family Activity:
Easter Egg #1 (Monday) – TRIUMPHAL ENTRY
Optional Video: The Story of Easter (The Triumphal Entry) Saddleback Kids
Scripture Passage – Matthew 21:1-11 – Read the Scripture and talk about what you read. Where were they going? Who was involved? What did the disciples get for Jesus? What did the crowd do and say? The crowds said that Jesus was a prophet, but we know He truly was the Son of God, the Messiah, and Savior.
Optional Activity: Included in your bag are two pages of cardstock. Color (if desired) and then cut out the various pieces. Use each piece to re-enact the Scripture that you just read. "Hosanna" is a Hebrew word meaning "save, I pray," "please deliver us," or "save now." When the people said “Hosanna” to Jesus during the Triumphal Entry, it was both a shout of praise and a plea for the Messiah to deliver them.
Candy Connection: Your Fruit by the Foot could represent the path that Jesus took to Jerusalem. Get creative either with a portion of your Fruit by the Foot or with other candy/food you have around the house. Use it to recreate the Bible lesson before you eat it.
Easter Egg #2 (Tuesday) – THE LAST SUPPER
Optional Video: The Story of Easter (The Last Supper) Saddleback Kids
Scripture Passage – Matthew 26:17-30 – Read the Scripture and talk about what you read. The Passover meal was celebrated to help the Israelites remember God’s salvation from Egypt. What sad thing did Jesus tell the disciples during the Passover meal in today’s Bible reading? Who was going to betray Him? Why were the bread and wine important during this Passover meal? What did Jesus say they represent?
Optional Activity: Included in your bag is a snack that can be dipped. Scripture tells us that Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with His disciples (dipping bread was part of the tradition). Passover is celebrated by the Jewish people to remember that God delivered them from Egypt (Exodus 12). During this particular Passover meal, Jesus was teaching His disciples about His upcoming sacrifice on the cross. He wanted them to use these symbols of His body (the bread) and His blood (the wine) to remember His sacrifice. We call this special “remembering meal,” Communion, and it is meant to help Christians focus on Jesus. As you eat your snack, with each dip remember details from today’s Scripture.
Candy Connection: Jesus broke the bread into pieces to share with the disciples. A famous commercial for Kit Kats used to say “break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar.” Are you willing to break off a piece of your Kit Kat and share it with someone? The bread Jesus “broke … and gave … to the disciples” was important because He was teaching them about a tradition (Communion) that would help them remember His sacrifice even after He returned to heaven.
Easter Egg #3 (Wednesday) – BETRAYAL & DENIAL

Optional Video: God's Story: Peter Denies Jesus Crossroads Kids' Club
Scripture Passage – Mark 14:1-2, 10-11, 43-50, 66-72 – Read the Scripture and talk about what you read. Who wanted Jesus arrested? Who helped them find Jesus? Where did they find Jesus? What did they do to him? Who denied Jesus? What did he do after he denied Jesus?
Optional Activity: Jesus told Peter, “Truly I say to you, that this very night, before a rooster crows twice, you yourself will deny Me three times.” Peter had said to Jesus, “Even though all may fall away, yet I will not.” and “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You.” Of course, Jesus was right as He is our Omniscient God (meaning He knows everything). Peter did, indeed, deny Jesus even though Peter thought he wouldn’t. Listen to a few videos of roosters crowing. Then, have a competition - Who in your family has the best rooster crow? While this may bring some smiles and giggles, let it also be a reminder to continuously be in God’s Word and focusing on Him so that we can live for Him and serve Him with our lives.
Candy Connection: Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss. “Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, ‘Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him and lead Him away under guard.’” Judas made a really, really big mistake and he definitely regretted it later. While what happened is hard and sad, it is important to remember it all led to God’s Salvation plan (Acts 2:23). He is Sovereign (in complete control)!!!
Easter Egg #4 (Thursday) – ARREST & TRIAL OF JESUS
Optional Video: The Gospel Project: Jesus is Arrested (Glenn View Baptist Church)
Scripture Passage – Matthew 27:11-26 – Read the Scripture and talk about what you read. It was a custom during Passover to have one prisoner released. Who did the people choose to have released instead of Jesus? What did the people want Pilate to do to Jesus? Did Pilate want to do this?
Optional Activity: Included in your bag are the items for a craft: leather cross, string, and beads. There is also half sheet of paper that explains what each bead can remind us of and also the order to place them on our craft.
Candy Connection: The people who arrested Jesus, called out for Him to be crucified, put Him on trial, hurt Him, and then killed Him did not have the right heart attitude. We could say they had a “sour” heart and mind as they mistreated Him. Once again, it was so very sad and scary. However, here is another reminder that it was God’s Sovereign plan for Jesus to die on the cross so that sin could be forgiven for those who believe and repent. Romans 10:9 declares “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Easter Egg #5 (Friday) – BEATING & CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS
Optional Video: The Story of Easter (Jesus' Sacrifice) Saddleback Kids
Scripture Passage – Mark 15:16-39 – Read the Scripture and talk about what you read. What were some of the mean things they said and did to Jesus? Who carried the cross for Jesus while He was on His way to Golgotha (where they crucified Him)? When the people made the sign “The King of the Jews” they were mocking Jesus. Was the sign true? At the end of this Scripture, who said “Truly this Man was the Son of God!”?
Optional Activity: Share the message of your Cross craft (from yesterday) with somebody today. It can be someone at home, another family member, a neighbor, etc. (of course, with parent’s permission). Pray to Our Heavenly Father before, during and after sharing!
Candy Connection: This chocolate cross does not really need much of an explanation. Praise Jesus for His love that led Him to the cross as the Perfect, Holy sacrifice!!!
“He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness …” 1 Peter 2:24
“God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Easter Egg #6 (Saturday) - RESURRECTION OF JESUS
Optional Videos: The Gospel Project for Kids: Easter 2020 (3 minutes) OR The Story of Jesus' Resurrection Minno Bible Stories for Kids (6 minutes, well done, may be better for younger kids)
Scripture Passage – Matthew 28:1-10 – Read the Scripture and talk about what you read. Who was going to see Jesus at the tomb? What caused the stone to roll away? Who was sitting on the stone? What happened to the guards and why? What did the angel tell the women about Jesus? As they were going to tell the disciples, who did they meet along the way? What did He tell the women to do?
Optional Activity: Pick a scene from today’s Scripture and make a very nice drawing of it. A suggestion would be to give a title, a brief description, and/or write “He is Risen!!!” on it somewhere.
Candy Connection: When the angel of the Lord rolled away the stone, do you think it made any kind of noise? As you are eating your Pop Rock candy, consider how amazing it is that the Lord and Savior rose again!!! He did not stay in the grave!!! He defeated sin and death!!!
“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures … He was buried … He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures …”
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die …” She said to Him, “Yes, Lord; I have come to believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God ...” John 11:25-27
